Sermon Notes:
Bible Verse: Romans 15:13
- Romans
- Written by Paul / Saul
- Made up of Jewish and Non Jewish
- Claudius forced Jews to leave Rome and after 5 years they returned and there was a new church in the old place - one that was predominantly Non Jewish and therefore much of Romans is written with the slight aim to understand how Gentiles fit into the Jewish Messiah.
- This means that Gentiles are part of Abraham family and how they were asked to unify in Love
- Now we come to the chapter 15. Saying that in this process of loving others, we often come across the failure of others.
- Lets go to the verse
- May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
- May the God of Hope
- God who gives us Hope
- Hope from what?
- Hope in what?
- He fills us
- Joy and Peace
- in our believing
- Through Holy Spirit
- Suffering produces endurance (Romans 5:3-5)
- endurance character
- character hope
- How come? - Because God's love has been poured out into us
- When do we need hope?
- or when do we feel hopeless?
- It is when we have tried all we can and are ou of options
- The time we feel like we can go back in time and chage thigs
- How does this verse inspire Hope?
- We see the author of Hope
- We believe in the joy that he set
- Hebrews 12:2
- fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
- We belive in the peace he set for us
- Even at the times we stay awake - we look on to Jesus
- and this is fueld by the power of the Holy Spirit who pours out hope in or hearts
What do we take home?
- Hope is not a long lost thing but rather a pursuing action
- We must pursue Hope - just like we pursue love, just like we pursue Faith
- Hope is a gift of God an empowerment of God
